This contest which asks for teens to describe how they are Remarkable, Energetic, Aspirational Leaders was exclusive to Girl Scouts between the ages of 13-19 who are working to make the world a better place in their local communities and beyond.
The R.E.A.L. Girl winners (and twin sisters), Nina and Grace Demet, 17, of Lake Forest, IL, are featured on the cover of the issue and in an article profiling their many high school and extracurricular activities. The girls have been Girl Scouts in the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana Council for 10 years. They both received their Gold Award in 2010 and their Green Glamour Clothing Exchange project—on which their Gold Award was based—is still being held yearly.
